The property is organized following permaculture design principles — from intensive management near the buildings to wild nature at the perimeter.

🏠 Zone 0 — The Buildings

The historic stone ruin and future living/research center. Adaptive reuse with passive solar design, rammed earth extensions, and rainwater harvesting integrated into the structure.

🥬 Zone 1 — Kitchen Garden

Intensive annual and perennial food production surrounding the buildings. Raised beds, herb spirals, companion planting, and greywater irrigation systems.

🌳 Zone 2 — Food Forest

Multi-layered agroforestry with Mediterranean fruit and nut trees — carob, fig, almond, olive, cork oak canopy. Understory of aromatic herbs and nitrogen-fixers.

Extensive agroforestry, silvopasture, and rain-fed grain. Rotational grazing with local sheep breeds. Swales and berms for water harvesting on contour.
